When you age, your skin sags. It’s one of the unfortunate effects that just about everyone will face as they get older. However, when the skin around your eyebrows and forehead begins to droop, it can leave you looking much older than you are, or even constantly sad, angry or tired. A brow lift, or forehead lift, is a facial plastic surgery procedure that Dr. Aylward performs to treat this problem of sagging skin and restore a youthful appearance.
Deciding to Undergo a Brow Lift in Kansas City
The Truman team most commonly performs the brow lift for men and women between the ages of 40 and 60 who are experiencing problems such as:
- A drooping/heavy brow
- Forehead furrows
- Excess skin above the eyes
During your consultation, you might find out that other facial procedures may be necessary to achieve your desired results. Because the brow lift in Kansas City only focuses on the upper portion of your face, a face and/or neck lift may help to achieve a fuller rejuvenation.
Your Brow Lift Surgery
The classic brow lift consists of an incision extending from one ear, around the hairline and ending near the opposite ear. Our surgical team will make sure to keep the incision within your hairline so as to minimize visible scars in the future. Carefully lifting the skin, Dr. Aylward can remove and alter the underlying tissue to provide a smooth foundation. The skin is then pulled tight and loose amounts are removed before the incision is closed. This will help to elevate your brow and improve the appearance of wrinkles, folds and sagging skin.
Endoscopic Brow Lift
The endoscopic brow lift in Kansas City uses an endoscope (a telescopic surgical tool with a lit camera at the end) to make for a less invasive surgical procedure. With this method, a series of smaller incisions are made to allow for the insertion of the endoscope and other telescoping surgical tools. The Truman team is then able to work beneath the skin to reshape the underlying tissue for a firmer, more youthful contouring. Recovery from an endoscopic brow lift will be shorter than with traditional surgery.
Brow Lift Recovery
Our surgical team will provide you with any necessary care instructions following your procedure. There will be some temporary discomfort during the initial recovery period, but this should fade over a few days and can be managed with prescribed medication.
You should be able to return to work after about 7-10 days and full activity after a few more weeks. It is important to avoid any excessive sun exposure for the next few months due to an increased sensitivity of your skin.
As your face continues to heal, you will notice a more youthful and vibrant appearance. That drowsy or gloomy look that once followed you everywhere will be a thing of the past. The results of your brow lift will help to minimize the appearance of aging in the upper portion of your face for years to come.
